What is different this time (well, actually similar to post-9/11) is the cheer-leading that the media does, rather than searching for the truth that supports or undermines the case for fear.
And that of course is driven by new media models - where fear sells

They have only two buttons: fear and obedience. At some point they make it clear that you must fear your own disobedience.
