Welcome to Outside Voices, a newsletter featuring writing from independent journalists, brought to you by Glenn Greenwald's Substack, the page for freelance contributions to be published on Greenwald's Substack and delivered to its subscribers.
Glenn - forgive me for bringing it up here in the comments, but have you already advised how we subs can get our signed copy of the new tome? Not pressuring, but you intimated an update a while ago and the notification system is somewhat wonky so I wanted to make I sure I'm not missing out on the opportunity for one or more!
I wouldn't want you to focus on it over the important journalism we've been getting; just want to make sure I didn't miss out!
RJ & CNNis.......here's the text: Glenn Greenwald's Substack, the page for freelance contributions to be published on Greenwald's Substack and delivered to its subscribers. That means it's part of our subs. aw This is, at a guess, Glenn doing what he intended the Intercept to be about, at least in part: a nonE platform for emerging talent and challenging ideas like, you know, integrity, democracy and free speech. aw Thanks again, oGG
How about a piece on the Clinton presidency as the foundation of where we are now: NAFTA, crime bill, welfare reform, financial deregulation, DNA on a blue dress, hyper partisanship pre-social media. I seed change
Thanks so much for doing this! We need a safe space for young journalists to be able to question mainstream narratives without being pushed away for some dumb reason.
I would love to see a centralized publication one day between people like Glenn, Matt Taibbi, Briahna Joy Gray, and other dissenting voices to provide something more easily accessible to the casual news consumer. I know too many people in my life that just read headlines from their chosen publication (NYT, CNN, WP, etc...) and don’t go beyond that. Getting them to follow various specific writers seems to be too much. Not saying to get rid of your existing solo substack’s though.
Rusty, that is a great sentiment, buddy; sadly, though, you also provide the rationale for not acting on the sentiment.
".....just read headlines from their chosen publication (NYT, CNN, WP, etc...) and don’t go beyond that."
So the rub is that, per your analysis, they are not motivated enough to do what you and I wish they would do.
DANG! In the interest of fairness, though, why not list the top 5 or so of these folks and start sending them a daily digest of the top headlines on your list, with links attached? Then, when someone gets back to you on one of 'em, you will know you struck a spark.
The US federal government, so vociferous regarding the defense of freedom in non-nuclear oil rich muslim countries is uninterested in military defense of the free people of Hong Kong.
So interesting, that nuclear deterent means allowed to invade.
Is the newsletter included in my subscription to your main Substack articles, or does it require a subscription, too?
I could be wrong but I think it is included as it shows as a checkmark at: https://reader.substack.com/inbox

Thank you for asking this question. I've been waiting for an update for a couple of weeks.

What is the method for submitting articles? Will the focus be on First Amendment rights or just truth about power?

Ok
