Glenn: "much of the U.S. media and Silicon Valley giants decided that ensuring Trump’s defeat was such an overarching goal, a moral imperative, that anything and everything was justified to achieve it."

Not surprising. During the Bosnian War of the 1990's, most Western journalists and editors felt the same way, and behaved the same way, to obtain their desired military intervention against the Serb minority. They kept publishing blatant falseholds long after they were discredited: 250,000 dead, 60,000 rapes. They suppressed inconvenient info: the Bosnian Government's murderous assault on an independent Bosnian Muslim enclave in northwest Bosnia, civilians held in appalling camps by their preferred sides in the conflict, Croat forces destroying the old bridge of Mostar, and hundreds of other such tidbits that would still the bloodlust of their readers in wanting to see the Serbs destroyed. The journalists there, who prided themselves on knowing nothing about the area before getting there (to show they were unbiased!), all stayed in the same hotel and felt like they belonged to "a club".

This is just human nature. Exactly why journalism cannot be left in the hands of an elite guild.

This is a persistent pattern. Deny, deny, deny, all the while smearing the sources, and then, all of a sudden, report it yourself as though history started today.

Recall in the 2016 primary that we are told, categorically, the DNC did not weigh in on the side of Clinton. Then, all of a sudden: "of course the DNC played favorites; why wouldn't they support the candidate they think has the best chance / has been a life-long Democrat?"

The very next 2018 cycle the DNC / DCCC / DSCC began overtly favoring candidates in the primary, up to and including running negative campaigns against more progressive primary candidates, and that was business as usual. The very thing party supporters denounced as crazy conspiracy suddenly became "no duh."

The same will happen here, no doubt. What was once whacked out "fake news" will quickly become some bullshit narrative like: "international relations are complex and this is a mountain out of a mole hill; advancing American interests always includes mixing of public-private relationships. How else do you get things done?"

And, of course, no accountability for those moving the goal posts. No one will ask: why didn't you say this didn't matter even if true, when you were saying it wasn't true?

Right because the very media that is intended to hold politicians accountable has been co-opted by those same politicians.

"Played favorites"? They had fake primaries intended to provide DNC voters with the illusion of choice. In reality the DNC had(s) no obligation to choose who voters select and had already chosen HRC. This was done in 2015 and reported on extensively...AFTER the 2016 election. https://www.npr.org/2017/11/03/561976645/clinton-campaign-had-additional-signed-agreement-with-dnc-in-2015 WAKE UP

“ much of the U.S. media and Silicon Valley giants decided that ensuring Trump’s defeat was such an overarching goal, a moral imperative, that anything and everything was justified to achieve it — including uniting with the professional liars of the CIA to disseminate blatant falsehoods about the Hunter Biden materials in order to discredit them,”

THAT is the truth of it. Thank you, Mr. Greenwald.

Great article. Thank you so much. What concerns me is how successful they were in keeping this from the public. Of equal concern may be the trust so many people still have in the MSM after the blatant lies. People are in denial. You speak to any regular reader of the NYT or WP, they will get extremely defensive or say you are full of bs for pointing it out. Mr. Greenwald should create a new news outlet and drive the rest out of business.

The recent reports on Hunter Biden't contacts with China may be true. But the important thing is that no one in industry or Congress is immune. Elaine Chao, McConnell's husband is proof of this. Business is business. When McConnell does it, no problem. Joe Biden's problem began when he pretended to be whiter than snow. His long term adoration of his deceased son created the Hunter Biden we know today. Hunter is an accomplished artist and he should stick to it because he's good. So let's talk about Elaine Chao instead. The more I read Glenn, the more marginalized I feel. Hard to read mainstream news without wanting to vomit.

The recent reports on Hunter Biden may be true? They are true. Joe Biden was never Snow White. When you look at Joe Biden's political career, his record, what is striking is his lack of character, and his willingness to lie, even about his academic standing in his class, the top, no the bottom. A full scholarship, no a partial scholarship based on financial need. He's for school integration, but no busing, could never happen back then. He steals famous people's speeches, and thinks no one will notice. His wife didn't stop at a stop sign so she goes into a lane of traffic with out looking, she died, her daughter died, and Biden blames it on the man she could have killed? He also helped lie us into the war with Iraq, and so much more. His son's character is perhaps more in tune with his father's. "His long term adoration of his deceased son created the Hunter Biden we know today." His son Beau? He died in 2015, I believe, and Hunter was a grown man, character is already well established by then.

Biden's adoration of Beau from an early age eclipsed Hunter's needs. This didn't begin when Hunter was an adult. It's a study in early childhood psychology and development. As for Hunter's links with China, check out multinational corporations like Apple who are also embedded in China where they can hire cheap labor. North Carolina was a state with multiple fabric producers. Now China does it leaving NC workers out in the cold reality of economic survival of the fittest. I'm not saying that Hunter is innocent but trying to outdo Beau is a scar from earlier in his life. Just clumsily trying to get Joe's approval.

Those facts might explain Hunter’s behavior or addiction, but do not white wash his deeds with Communist China and putting the US in a security danger.

The results of that criminal behavior is jail.

In my opinion the main difference between the Hunter Biden emails and the Hillary emails from 2016 is that the Hillary emails were published by Wikileaks and verified using the DKIM signature (cryptographic proof that they were authentic).

On the other hand, the Hunter Biden emails were promoted by Rudy and were not DKIM verified or anything. Since Wikileaks' use of the DKIM signatures to verify the emails was widely publicized, it's obvious that Rudy and the Trump supporters are have not hired someone to build a website to do DKIM verification of the emails because the emails would not turn out to be authentic.

Most media outlets are highly partisan, and so in my opinion the relevant information is that those wishing to promote the emails have not taken obvious steps to prove they are authentic.

This would be true except Biden's business partners showed the exact same emails on thier side. Keep hoping Quid Pro Joe isnt as crooked as you claimed ole cheeto man was.

Expand full comment

A few disgruntled former partners claiming to have the same email is worth something, but not anywhere close to as much as the cryptographic proof from the DKIM signatures.

But not only did Rudy and the partisan loyalists not spend the $10K or less it would cost to hire someone to write the code to show whether the DKIM signatures match, no technically knowledgable Trump supporters came forward and offered to write it for free.

My guess is that some did but it didn't go anywhere because the emails are fake.

The Hillary emails were credible ONLY because Wikileaks did the DKIM verification. That was four years ago and everyone now knows how DKIM can be useful in verifying the authenticity of old email troves.

I'm not on either side. I am not a fan of Biden or of Trump, and I would love to see both of them brought to justice for any wrongdoing they have committed.

I agree with the comments here. When a parent continues to idolize a deceased sibling, there's nothing a second child can do to fill that sibling's exaggerated shoes. I have felt sad about Hunter's fate. I have seen his art online and it is clear that he is blessed with an exceptional talent. A parent who is a corporate shill and a narcissistic political climber has no room in his heart for a son who has taken a different path. In fact, I am amazed that despite of his father's rejection he works on his own to do great things.

I don't know how good this documentary is, but it covers Hunter Biden's corporate operations in China.

Easier to document who doesn't have these ties. Publicly Hunter has been discredited as a fuck up drug addict. Possibly they just got in with China earlier than most.

Why Susan do you not want to hold Hunter accountable. He is. Yeah lots of politicians and people are corrupt, but that doesn't excuse their behavior.

Earlier than most? The LA times was reporting on Clinton/China shadiness back in 1996. Yah-Lin Trie was arrested in 1998 and he got a massive.....3 years probation. You can see this was a bit of a scandal back in the late 90s. This is nothing new. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/campfin/stories/cf072097.htm
